As part of our service, we supply and fit a range clay terracotta chimney pots when installing a flexible flue liner, pumped concrete lining or FuranFlex chimney lining in pairing with a stove installation.
It is important for chimney pots to be correctly fitted, as any holes in the pots or cracks in the flaunching can lead to a damp chimney.
When this happens, the chimney starts to deteriorate very quickly and the stack itself can become dangerously unstable.
If a chimney flue is not being used, a chimney cap should be fitted to the top of the chimney pot to stop rain and birds entering the chimney stack. You can see a picture of the chimney cap on the clay chimney pot below.
Often we see chimney pots that are covered in green moss or on the top part of the stack with a darker colour where water has saturated it. If this is allowed to continue, then the bricks themselves can turn soft and brittle and can start to fall away.
